Is Wilt Chamberlain overrated?

I think “the legend” that is Wilt Chamberlain can get a little out of hand. People fail to understand that the game was still developing in the 50’s and 60’s, physcially and fundamentally. The pace was ridiculous back then. Teams were taking almost 120 shots per game and shooting under 40% from the field. That’s why you have all these bloated scoring and rebounding numbers from that era. People look at the stats and think he is so much better than say Shaq, Olajuwon, or Jabbar, when that simply is not the case. If he played in today’s game I think it’d be a more level playing field. 25-30 points and 11-14 rebounds a game would likely be around his averages, not 50 and 27. I’d also have to agree that while Russell was a great player, his impact today would be no different than that of a Marcus Camby, Dennis Rodman, or Ben Wallace.
