Is wheat bread fattening?

Most flour products are high in carbohydrates, which makes them "fattening". the key to eating bread, wheat or any other kind is moderation. One slice of bread is 15 carbohydrates. So if you make a sandwhich, thats 30 carbs or about 150 calories, before you add anything to it! Wheat bread is popular because it is unbleached and often some of the grain is left unprocessed adding flavor and fibre to the bread, but calorie wise there is no difference!

Wheat bread contains a lot of carbohydrates (also some fats and sugars) which can be converted to energy, or stored as fat for later use. If you are talking about whole grain wheat bread then it usually has a larger proportion of fiber, which cannot be turned into fat (but sometimes it has more fat in it already). Either way, yes, it can be fattening if you are not using up the energy you get from eating the bread.
