Is what Jesus preached, a mixture of Buddhism & Hinduism packaged in Judaism?
What Jesus himself preached is quite different from what is preached about him now. Jesus was essentially an apocalyptic prophet, who preached about a coming “Kingdom” where all would be judged, the righteous rewarded, and the wicked punished. The way to do get on god’s good side was to keep god’s law, meaning, the law he gave to Moses. The reason the world was so screwed up, according to Jesus and all the other apocalyptic prophets of his time and right down to our own day, was that people were not keeping god’s law properly and would be punished as a result. In a nutshell, that was Jesus’ message. I can’t say that he was or wasn’t influenced by other philosophies (apart from the obvious influence of the Old Testament and Jewish traditions), but there really wasn’t anything terribly new about what he was saying. Lots of other apocalyptic prophets were saying that the end was near, repent, etc. etc., just as you see people saying it today.
