Is weight training good for losing weight?
Straight from my health club (and, no I’m not going to plug any weight loss sites), the best way to lose weight is: 1. Consume fewer calories than your body needs to maintain weight. Do not go overboard here, because there is a point where your body will fight back. One day a week consume more calories than you need and don’t worry about it. This will help keep your body from adapting. 2. Weight training. The more muscle the more calories your body burns when at rest. Remember muscle weighs more than fat, so it is possible for you to gain weight, but have a lower body fat percentage. This also means you may actually have to slightly increase your calorie intake to avoid the problems involved with consuming too few calories. 3. Cardio. Keep doing it, but switch to something easier on your knees. Elliptical machine, swimming, biking (but get properly adjusted pedals and shoes to avoid additional knee problems–lower end combo “clipless” + regular style pedals are wonderful, and let you b
