Is weight lifting a good form of exercise for a fibromyalgia patient?

Answer Susan, I have had several patients with fibromyalgia and they both seemed to enjoy the weightlifting. The exercise though had to be very adaptable to my client’s condition that particular day. Because fibromyalgia is so unpredictable when it hits, there would be days that we would have a great workout session and they would feel great. Then there would be days that they would just ache and we would have to modify the workout. Despite the flare-ups, we all agreed that this was very beneficial for them to try and keep the muscles as strong as they can, limber, and get the blood flowing through the muscles. I would definitely start a weight lifting program, if you haven’t already. I would also combine it with a stretching program. Keeping the muscles as elastic as possible is a must.
