Is Weed and Seed a truly community-driven initiative?
Pennsylvania’s Weed and Seed Initiative is entirely a community-driven initiative. The initiative requires the creation of community leadership teams such as Target Area Local Leadership, or TALL Team, within every target area. TALL Teams, made up of at least 20 motivated resident leaders from within the target area, ensures that Weed and Seed will be generational by committing the citizens in the community to help undertake the “Seed” strategies such as: Community Policing Communities That Care Block Social Contract Drug Prevention and Nuisance Abatement “Safe Area” Social Services Coordination Neighborhood Enterprise Development The success of these strategies is determined by resident involvement and their efforts of identifying issues and needs and seeking resources through collaboration and partnering with service providers and leadership.
