Is WebDAV just a replacement for WebSpinner?
Not exactly. WebDAV is a change in the communication protocol that you use to have administrative access to a webhosted site. In other words, the rules of how data is sent between you and the web server will be changing. It is the change (and improvement) in this protocol that means WebSpinner will no longer work under the new rules. One analogy is that when the University went to a digital phone system, all the old hardware (e.g., rotary dial phones) no longer worked. The upgrade to digital technology did not replace the hardware, but required upgrading to digital phones. In a similar fashion, the upgrade to WebDAV requires an upgrade to new web tools; however, with the inconvenience of upgrading come benefits.
