Is wearing ankle weights bad?
They won’t be particularly bad. It’s likely the weight will most defintely not be enough to cause much joint damage or whatever people have told you. But, however, it won’t help you, either. There’s honestly nothing you can gain from wearing ankle weights. The intensity is far too low to gain any sort of muscle from it, and you gain no CNS strength from it either. If anything, it will change your motor pathways and your precision in movement will be somewhat lost.
