Is Virgin Cable/Broadband better than BT Broadband, anyone?

I have experienced both types of internet connection and I can say catagorically that cable is BY FAR the better option. However, make sure you are in a cable area and that you have permission from your landlord (if you rent) for the engineers to drill through any necessary walls. Cable is a lot faster than through the phone line and also a lot more consistent. BT may say you have up to 2mb bandwidth (for example) but this is a massively over-estimated upper limit. In truth, even if you are close to the telephone exchange, you may only achieve half this (and thats being optimistic). The further away from the exchange you are, the slower it will be. If you live rurally broadband speeds wont be much better than by a 56K modem. Broadband through the cable is a lot more faithful to its bandwidth limit than through the phone line i.e. if virgin says you will get 8mb then you will most likely get well over half this value and peak at maybe 80 or 85%.
