C++ is good for learning and knowing. The thing about programming languages is that despite the inevitability of them eventually becoming obsolete it’s still one of the most popular languages currently and much of what you can learn from it will likely transfer to the future and other common video game languages such as C#. If video games are your goal I think C++ is about the best thing you could attempt to learn right now. How many years? It’s hard to say. Just casually doing it at your own pace is obviously going to depend on how quickly you take to the information and how deep you choose to delve. Looking at college though you’re obviously going to be leaving a typical 4 year college with what should be a sound base of knowledge so 3-4 years is probably a safe number to go off of. Is it hard to model landscapes? Again that’s entirely subjective. I’m sure many working professionals still find it difficult while other find it easy.
