Is verizon fios better/faster internet than a cable provider such as comcast or cox?

FIOS offers 5Mbps and 15Mbps down and up to 15Mbps up speed. That kills comcast speed offerings. From what I can find, it looks like you can get 6Mbps or 8Mbps down from comcast and I am not even sure they offer a 1Mbps up speed. FIOS seems much better and the prices aren’t too different either.
