Is using henna rather than other types of hair coloring better for the hair?
I used to henna my hair in my 20’s. I had beautiful healthy looking hair. When the red craze started I couldn’t achieve the color I wanted with out dye. So I took the plunge for 15 years. about 5 years ago my hair started to break and the dye was not holding so I had to dye it more often. I decide to return to henna. I stopped dying my hair and let it wear out for about 2 months (never put henna over newly chemical treated hair. It will turn green.) I started with a nice cut (shoulder lenghth) and did the henna myself. I could feel the difference right away. As my damaged hair grew out I just kept trimming it off. It took about 2 years to get rid of all the damamged hair. I get more compliments on my hair color now. Even beauticians ask how I get my streaks so nice. I have to laugh. It is just the way henna covers my gray hairs. I got a lot of my information from this site but take the you have to use skin grade henna with a grain of salt. I use Avigal Auburn prepackaged.

To alter the shade of the henna, some companies use a variety of ingredients. These ingredients may vary including: metals, oxidative dyes or other plant pigments such as indigo, madder root, turmeric or walnut. Metals may be extremely toxic to the body. Henna usually comes in a powder form and is mixed with water, coffee or black tea and applied to dry hair as a paste. The processing tim
Henna in conditioners can provide moisture to hair. It is also used as a dye. I believe it is better because it is natural hair dye. Please refer to the following link below. If you use Henna, like most coloring products, you have to do a strand test. Also, do not expect henna to color your hair like most of the products on the market.
