Is US containment policy necessary during the cold war?
During the Cold War, the United States believed in “Domino Theory,” that one Communist revolution would spawn others, so even the the smallest expansion of Communism was dangerous. The United States believed Communism was evil and intent on destroying democracy. Domino Theory eventually proved invalid; several East Asian countries fell to Communism, but this did not spark more revolutions. With the fall of Soviet economic system, the Cold War ended and the United States began to cooperate with rather than confront Communist countries. At the time, containment seemed necessary.
