Is Unithroid better than Synthroid ® or Levoxyl ®?
The FDA has looked at the evidence and declared Unithroid as ‘interchangeable’ with both Synthroid and Levoxyl. The main issue is that up to ½ of Synthroid and Levoxyl prescriptions are being filled with “generic levothyroxine” tablets, sometimes without the physician’s knowledge. This is undesirable by most physicians treating thyroid patients. By prescribing Unithroid Direct, there is absolutely no chance of that prescription being switched to a generic levothyroxine thereby allowing the doctor to treat any thyroid function changes as patient changes rather than wondering about the difference in bioavailablity of the product taken.
