Is Union Terminal taking steps to become more energy efficient?
As part of the larger plan to repair and restore Union Terminal, energy efficiency plays a critical role. CMC is presently evaluating all the green technology options available today that will make Union Terminal more energy efficient, and ultimately less costly to operate. On top of improved efficiency, the greening of Union Terminal will add another point of distinction to this National Historic Landmark. Specifically, CMC is looking at plans to install a green roof on Union Terminal as part of the South Side renovation project that will be the largest green roof in Hamilton County (7,600 square feet). Green roofs absorb rainwater, provide insulation, and help lower urban air temperatures. CMC selected a green roof because of the environmental benefits of the system and because evidence is showing that a green roof actually lasts longer and remains in better condition than a 30-year roof.
