Is UK IMC Rating instrument training acceptable towards the FAA IR?

The practice is that the training is accepted at all known U.S. training establishments. There is a view to be found in some places in Europe that this is wrong unless the original instructor had a valid ICAO IR. Some notes on the matter are here. Is it possible to do a JAA IR in an N-reg aircraft? This helicopter related document (local copy) suggests it is possible. One needs the DfT permission, and as usual with the JAA IR the aircraft needs to be CAA approved with the CAA view limiting screen installed, etc. This is relevant to N-reg owners who may, in years to come, wish (or be forced by EASA) to do the European IR.
