Is tubular function impaired during treatment with gentamicin or tobramycin?
A total of 22 infected patients mostly with urinary tract infection were treated with either gentamicin or tobramycin in dose regimens designed to avoid accumulation. The concentrations of ß2-microglobulin in blood and urine were used as indicators of renal tubular function. According to these indicators there was tubular dysfunction both before and during treatment but as the infection was eradicated an improvement in function was observed. All patients in the study were cured using modest doses and no difference was seen in the tubular function between the gentamicin and tobramycin groups. CiteULike Connotea Del.icio.us What’s this?
