Is Traditional Adult Foster Care a good alternative to Nursing Homes?

0

A study by the School of Public Health, University of Minnesota, on the topic of Adult Foster Care as an alternative to nursing homes, found “On average, nursing home residents were more physically and cognitively impaired than AFC residents…”, “AFC residents reported more social activity, even when (we) controlled for disability status,” and “AFC residents and their families were more likely to value privacy and homelike settings when choosing a care setting,” whereas “nursing home residents were more likely to value rehabilitation and organized activity programs.” The results of this study (conducted in Oregon) appeared in the American Journal of Public Health. This study would suggest that indeed Adult Foster Care is an excellent mainstream alternative to Nursing Homes.
