Is torture justified in the defence of the realm?
I don’t think torture would necessarily work. I believe that under torture you will agree to anything or say whatever you think the torturer wants to hear, if it will stop your pain and agony. What happened to all the so-called truth drugs like ethanol and sodium pentathol? I know they are considered a bit unreliable as they sometimes mix fantasy and truth, but a good interrogator should be able to tell the difference and there will probably be further evidence and information to back up what they are saying. Truth drugs are certainly not any more unreliable than torture! Funnily enough, truth drugs are considered a form of torture, but I would have no objection to someone using them. I think they are a necessary evil.
