Is tonsillectomy outpatient surgery?
Tonsillectomy is performed as outpatient surgery in about 99 percent of patients. If tonsillectomy is performed in children under three (very uncommon), an overnight stay in a hospital setting may be required, on a case by case basis. Performing a tonsillectomy as part of treatment for sleep apnea may also require an overnight observation in a hospital setting. Healthy individuals should tolerate outpatient tonsillectomy without problem. See our tonsillectomy-questions and answers for more details.
