Is Tokyo Babylon a religious anime?
Not really. CLAMP gives you the impression that it is because there are various religious motifs used throughout the series, such as the crucifix, the Bible, quotes and excerpts from the holy book. As for the title, ‘Babylon’ refers to the land of Babylonia in biblical times. So yes, there are strong religious images/motifs used but the story is not focused on religion at all. It’s more about the darkness of man’s heart, problems in modern-day society such as crime, and of course, the relationships depicted…very realistic but subjective.
