Is Tin Man appropriate for children under 5 years?”
Tin Man is a much more adult version of Wizard of Oz – it’s not nearly so whimsical, colorful, and silly. Nor is it a musical. This is a sci-fi fantasy adventure that features some scenes kids would be uncomfortable with. There is a character who is tortured for information, and though we don’t see any violence in it, we see him begging and writhing in pain. There are bad men who hunt with weapons and do cruel things to others. And death is a strong theme here. (including one scene where one child kills her sister) And there are even a few sexually suggestive moments that feature showgirl-burlesque type costumes. No real nudity. If the kids were 10 years old, then maybe these mild offenses would be ok. But at 5 years old and youger, I think it’s best to stick with the chipper cheery old-fashioned WOO. However…if mom and dad get some movie alone time…this is a very intriguing and enthralling reimagining. I highly recommend it. Great entertainment.
