Is Tide Coldwater Liquid Laundry Detergent even more effective in hot water than in cold?
In general, all detergents are more effective in warmer water than in colder water. The binding of dirt and oil by detergents is a chemical reaction, and the reaction rate of most chemical reactions goes up with temperature. However, some detergent ingredients are less temperature sensitive than others. For what it’s worth, as of Summer 2010, Consumer Reports rates Coldwater Tide as the best detergent they’ve tested for conventional (not high-efficiency) washing machines.
