“Congestive cardiac failure” most often involves enlargement of the left ventricle. This condition is treatable in many cases. It cannot be reversed but an individual with “congestive heart failure” (CHF) can live a relatively normal life. It depends on the extent of the enlargement and any other factors involving the heart. The “CTR” refers to cardiothoracic ratio which is the transverse (across) size of the heart in reference to the size of the thoracic cavity. In this case it is 14:23 or 60% which indicates some enlargement of the heart. The “bilateral patchy reticular opacities” refer to a network of patches of tissue that are relatively opaque on the X-ray which can indicate a lung problem. The costphrenic angles is the angles of the diaphragm as it normally protrudes upwards in the thoracic cavity in reference to the sides of the cavity. They should look sharp in the X-ray, indicating pulmonary edema was not present at the time. The X-ray of this patient suggests some problems th
