Is this news article correct in the statement that North Korea actually possesses nuclear weapons (two) in 2009?
North Korea ran what it claimed were two nuclear tests, I think in 2009. The first was so small that it could have been a misfire (essentially, a failed test) or simulated with conventional explosives. The second was larger, so it would have been difficult (but not impossible) to simulate. The expected traces of radioactive gasses were not detected. Assuming that these were genuine nuclear explosions, it is plausible that they have enough nuclear material for another one or two bombs. At this stage, they would still be “bench test” bombs. Converting them into something that could be dropped by a huge bomber such as a B29 would be easy. Fitting them into, for example, a missile would be harder, and they may not have done that yet – though they have been working on it. So two clumsy bombs would be a reasonable best guess of the current state or their nuclear arsenal.
