Is this expansion project related in any way to the Knik Arm Bridge project?
The Port of Anchorage Intermodal Expansion Project has no direct relationship to a proposed Knik Arm Bridge project other than both projects fall under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT). The bridge project currently under consideration is being headed up by the Knik Arm Bridge and Toll Authority (KABATA), an entity of the State of Alaska with federal oversight by USDOT Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) whereas the Port’s expansion project is under the federal oversight of the USDOT Maritime Administration. The Port expansion project considered certain elements of a proposed bridge when examining the cumulative impacts of potential development projects within upper Cook Inlet. The Municipality of Anchorage, through its ownership of the Port of Anchorage, owns 1,440 tideland acres to the north of the existing dock. Provisions for a future right-of-way along these tidelands were established in 1992 for a potential bridge crossing; documents for this rig
