Is this drop in general politieness worrisome?
Freyashawk: I think it contributes to wanton violence, quite honestly. Good manners are a sort of barrier between emotional responses and strangers. Road rage, for example, is partly a product of lack of general courtesy. I think if you simply say ‘Please’ and ‘Thank you’ and ‘Excuse me’, it kind of defuses a lot of unpleasantness. Well, it’s all part and parcel of a society that is impatient. Courtesy takes time. And don’t get me started on the topic of ‘instant gratification.’ I think the media tries to persuade us we can have anything we want instantly. That’s another reason I am so positive about Harvest Moon. It’s completely the opposite of instant gratification. You have to have patience and determination to succeed in any Harvest Moon game.
