It looks like it’s the iris of the camera lens, picking up, I would guess, some side light. If you look it’s slightly angular, about five or six sides, which is how an iris usually looks on a camera lens. You often see this when there is a strong light source in the image somewhere, which there isn’t in this shot. That and the fact that the iris is defocused makes me think it’s a side light. The photographer should have checked the periphery for strong light sources, and / or used a lens hood. You’re quite softly lit … was that done with a diffuser for a flash, or with a light source bounced off a big reflector? If the latter, then that’s your culprit. Otherwise it could be any bright light source, even an ordinary light bulb, if near enough to the camera, or if the sun was clearly visible off to the side, then that.
