Is there symbolism in Pride and Prejudice?
She’s silly because she’s trying so hard to be intelligent that she misses the mark entirely. Like at the party when she’s playing the piano, she wants to much to show her skills to the crowd, but her playing is appalling and her father tried to rush her away rom the pianoforte as quickly as possible because she’s embarrassing. She’s always quoting passages from books, but I don’t think she even knows what they mean. And she’s so busy being sensible she doesn’t have time for fun, or for living. Personally, I think she should have married Mr Collins, they would have been perfect for each other 😉 I guess there’s other symbolism, but it wouldn’t be overt. I don’t think that was Jane’s style, she was very up front with all her novels. Everything she wanted to say she just came out and said it. That was part of what made her so great.
