Is there such thing as artificial vocal cords?
Artificial vocal chords are especially useful for those who have their vocal cords removed because of a laryngeal carcinoma, or for humanoid robots. PRAGUE (Czech republic): Czech scientist Vojtech Misut from the Technological University in Brno has invented the first artificial vocal chords in the world that return voice to those who have lost it, local media reported. Mr. Misut first created a computer model of the vocal chords according to his own theory, and now he has successfully tested his physical model as well, according to the report. Since the vocal chords differ by length, Mr. Misut had to create special models for men, women and children that can be shaped so that people even recognise their lost voice. Mr. Misut is not yet able to implant the artificial vocal chord in its original place in the patient’s throat. That is why air is conducted from the lungs through a tiny tube to the artificial vocal chord fixed for instance to the chest. – Xinhua A mechanical model of the h
