Is there such thing as a left-handed violin?

I’ve heard of such a thing, but don’t ever buy one except for a collector’s item. Left handedness is an asset for a violinist, not a handicap. It’s the left hand which does all the dirty work. I’m left handed, I’ve played the violin, and it has never caused me any trouble. I once knew a violin teacher who once tried to teach a left handed student to play the violin left handed and vowed never to repeat the mistake.
