Is there special leave with pay for Eid, Hajj or for any other religious occasion?
At present leave for Eid and other religious occasions are taken either as annual or flexi leave. It is not unknown for some departments to offer the leave as special leave with pay, however, this is not a right and is one that is achieved taking into consideration the department’s policy and ultimately at the line manager’s discretion. Currently the Civil Service provisions are supportive for staff who wish to take time off for religious observance such as Eid and Hajj. This has meant that staff manage their annual leave commitments accordingly. However, local departmental practices may vary and inevitably it has always been at local management discretion how staff time is managed.
