Is there sparring & tournaments?
Yes. We use sparring to improve our distance and timing in an enjoyable, safe and challenging environment. Sparring and training for tournaments is optional, so if it’s not for you that’s okay – our curriculum is actually designed to teach real fighting (no judges, protective equipment, or rules). Sparring is one tool that some find helpful. In competition, we strive for top-notch performance and fair play. We don’t just compete to win; we see tournaments as opportunities to try and perfect our technique. We compete in a manner and with techniques that earn people’s respect. If we can earn respect, learn and improve; then we have really won. Trophies are not important and seeking to win trophies in a rules-based environment can actually deter from building skill.
