Is there space for small crane operators?
The business is good. India is a vast country and there are many pockets which we can’t cater to. So there is scope for smaller players. As we upgrade our cranes, we sell our smaller cranes to these smaller players. There is scope for everybody to grow; we have also grown from small to big. Tell us about the skilled manpower needed and the current shortage? Since the population of cranes has risen very rapidly, there was a huge demand for crane operators from the Middle East and Gulf, and Sanghvi was an excellent poaching ground for crane operators. Last year we started a crane operators’ training institute in Pune. There are around 15 to 20 students in each batch for a three-month training course and three months on site training, and we have already conducted three batches.
