Is there somewhere to purchase lead came that accepts thicker glass?
Answer CJ Ask your supplier to order a “high heart” came for you. Came comes in various face widths and heart thicknesses. Also, specify a “hard” alloy.” This is a lead with extra inclusions of antimony. This lead will be somewhat harder to stretch and form around irregular shapes, but will give added strength to the panel. You will want both a higher heart and wider profile of the came. 5/16″ at the minimum and probably 3/8″.This heavier glass needs the additional support. Ideally, you need zinc came for this process. I think it also comes in the higher heart thicknesses. The extra weight of the thicker glass warrants the use of the zinc came. The thicker glass you intend to use will have weight equivalent to bevelled glass which, because of the additional weight requires the use of zinc came.
