Is there organization similar to OPEC that controls a portion of the natural gas industry?

No. For many years, the federal government regulated the price of gas from the producers. This proved to be unsuccessful and resulted in artificial shortages. Fifteen years ago, the government decided to let competition develop and let normal business practices take control of the natural gas industry. Currently, the natural gas market is competitive and open. NOTE: This FAQ sheet was compiled through information provided by the American Gas Association, the Energy Information Administration of the Department of Energy, American Petroleum Institute and the Natural Gas Supply Association.
