Is there much difference between Montessori and Steiner schools?
There is a huge difference between them. They are essentially very different forms of education. That said, they have many similarities. It is important to note that these similarities are also true of a good teacher of any system, but we’re talking about the core philosophy of both being similar: –Both believe in educating the “whole” child. The schools are not simply interested in whether the child learns reading, writing, and math (though these are important), but are also concerned with the child’s social, developmental, physical, and spiritual growth. (Note: Spiritual does not necessarily mean religious…think more globally: the idea of a child becoming a person who is confident and at peace with him or herself.) –Both were started early this century. –Both grew out of a need of a different form of education. –Both seek to foster creativity.
