Similiarly, “more megapixels are better” is also misleading. Too many photosites crammed onto the sensor will cause poorer performance in dim light and increase image noise. So past a certain point, more isn’t really better; in fact, it’s actually worse. The sweet spot for point and shoot sensors is from 5 to 8 megapixels, these days. So, all other things being equal, there isn’t much difference between a 5mp and 7mp camera for virtually any print size.
