Is there more to dieting than just calories eaten and calories burned?
Yes! First of all, there are different types of calories that we eat and burn. The first calories our bodies choose to burn are the carbohydrates in our diet. This goes for everyone. The human body seeks energy to live so it relies on fast energy that comes from simple carbohydrates such as sugar, white flour, pasta and bread, then it moves onto the protein and finally the fat. Looking at the situation simplistically, one can conclude that if you eat more calories than you burn, that you will gain weight. This is true however it is too simple to put into action. Some bodies burn calories faster than others and some bodies need more calories than others. This is where genetics comes into play. You need to be able to figure out how many calories your particular body needs each day, how many calories it can burn and how fast and finally what kind of calories suits your body the best.
