Is there mercury in fish oil supplements?
Many people want to improve their nutrition and health of fish, but are concerned if there’s mercury in the fish oil supplements. A study published in the Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (2003) by physicians Harvard Medical School looked at five different brands of fish oil to determine if there was mercury in fish oils. The 5 brands were analyzed: 1. Fish oils Omega Brite Two. Fish oils Sundown Nutrition 3. Kirkland Signature Fish Oil Concentrate 4. CVS Pharmacy Fish Oil Concentrate 5. Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega capsules of fish oil each sample were punctured and the liquid contents were sent for analysis to the level of mercury. The lower limit of detection was 6 mg / L. Mercury concentrations reading below this level were considered insignificant. The results showed that no fish oils brands tested contained high levels of mercury. The highest values were found in the Omega Brite 12 mg / L Mercury and the CVS brand contained 10 mg / L. Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega
