Is there latex in masking tape?
yes, the adhesive in masking tape can contain up to 100% natural latex. I say natural because only the natural kind has proteins that cause sensitized people to react. There is no natural latex in latex paint — so people don’t react to that. However, there is plenty of natural latex in balloons, pacifiers, padding, shoes, toys, condoms, elastic, and the big one — latex gloves. The problem is the cornstarch that makes the gloves slide on becomes loaded with latex proteins and gets inhaled. The exploding use of latex gloves may be the culprit for increased sensitivity. Cross-reactions occur with a variety of fruit, like apples, kiwi, and bananas, as well as nuts, especially filberts. So, don’t stick masking tape on your skin anymore, and be aware of how you feel after eating certain foods!
