IS THERE HIKING OR CROSS COUNTRY SKIING CLOSE BY?
Cross country skiing in the South’s deepest natural snow atop Roan Mountain is open to the public throughout the winter. There are numerous cross country trails located thru out the area. The Cherokee National Forest abuts our property and in the next few years we hope to cut some trails so that they meander thru our property. Passing a half mile or so nearby at the top of Carvers Gap is the Appalachian Trail, which extends from Georgia to Maine. The Appalachian Trail, meandering across the highlands of the Roan, takes the hiker through the largest expanse of grass open lands in the Southern Appalachians. The adjacent Cherokee National forest has a number of well maintained and marked trails thru out the area.
