Is there “hard science” to support the use of light therapy?

The scientific study of skin response to light energy using LED’s has been published by NASA, the Mayo Clinic, and many dermatological scientists. Skin bacteria on the surface of the epidermis, such as with acne, are killed by the application of certain wavelengths of blue light. Cells in the dermis respond to red light energy by increasing collagen production, stimulating healing and tissue growth effects. Collagen contributes to skin smoothness, volume, and elasticity. Yellow light is beneficial for hyperpigmentation and acne, and green light stimulates the dermis to correct redness and hyperpigmentation. NASA’s medical experiments have demonstrated that under red light at 640 nm, collagen production is increased by five fold.
