Is there gravity on the moon?
Gravity is created by everything in the universe with mass. You have gravity. I have gravity. The earth has gravity, and so does the moon. Of course, our gravity is very very small, because the strength of the gravity is related to the mass of the object. The bigger the mass, the stronger the gravity. However, no matter how strong, the farther away you are from an object with a large mass, the less you are affected by that object’s gravity. Of course, in our neighborhood of the solar system, the Earth is the biggest thing with the most mass, and consequently, the most gravity. It has enough gravity to keep the moon in orbit around us. The moon is pretty darn big. Now, interestingly, the moon has a quirky gravity field. The strength of it’s gravity varies across it’s surface. These gravitational variations are caused by concentrations of mass (mascons) buried underneath the moons surface. NASA has a mission called GRAIL (Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory) to map the gravity of th
