Is there government oversight of mining operations?
Walltown Quarry will be subject to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) environmental review and public hearing processes. CEQA requires government agencies to consider the environmental consequences of their actions before approving plans and policies or committing to a course of action on a project. Sacramento County’s Department of Environmental Review and Assessment (DERA) will prepare a detailed Environmental Impact Report (EIR). The EIR will analyze potential impacts to the surrounding environment, including, but not limited to assessments of the following criteria: Aesthetics, Traffic, Air Quality, Biological Resources, Cultural Resources, Noise, Hydrology, and Water Quality. Project alternatives, cumulative impacts with surrounding land uses, and mitigation measures for any identified significant impacts will also be described in the EIR.
