Is there evaluation data on the impact of the Healthy Kids program and/or CHI?
Yes, the Urban Institute has led the evaluation of the Healthy Kids program since 2003 and issued several reports on the impact of the program. For example, the Urban Institute has reported that the Healthy Kids program has resulted in increased access, improved health outcomes, and reduced health disparities (December 2008). A USC study found that the program contributed to preventing as many as 1,000 hospitalizations among children in California, saving the state and federal government up to $7.3 million annually in hospital costs (December 2007). Another USC study determined that the CHI of Greater Los Angeles has a strong and diverse core “network structure”, highly involved members, high perceptions of success and comprises highly collaborative organizations (December 2005).
