Is there discrimination against non-smoking actors?
Screen acting is really a global industry. Television programs from the U.S. and movies from all over the world are shown in the U.K. and actors from the U.K. work in many countries. Patrick Stewart, for example, has an obvious British accent, but is best known for his work on Star Trek: The Next Generation, which was syndicated worldwide. Nicole Kidman and Mel Gibson are really Australian, but mostly work in U.S. movies. Televisions shows made for the U.S. market, but set in ancient Greece (Hercules the Legendary Journeys, Zena Warrior Princess, etc.) are typically filmed in New Zealand because it still looks how U.S. citizens (probably incorrectly) think Greece looked before it became industrial. The point is that what is happening with filming programs for a country has little or no connection to the ability of actors from that country to find work.
