Current earthquake activity in the Searles Valley, Southern California November 16, 1:52 PMDeath Valley National Park ExaminerClora Teel The earthquake shaking began about 1:30 in the Searles Valley area of southern California. The quake centered about 16 miles from Trona, California. The tremors could be felt easily as I was sitting on the sofa with the lap top. I quickly went to the USGS survey site to see the exact location and magnitude. The magnitude is 2.0 at present, no stronger shakes have been felt. But there were two in a row, both giving my two friends browsing the photos with me a good start. This is the third time since late summer the earthquake activity has been jolting the area with stronger tremors, the past were caused by the quake located in Olancha, Ca. located to the north of Trona. Currently the tremors are about 2 miles deep so there are no signs of grounds cracking where we are in the Searles Valley. The fault lines run along the edge of the Slate Range mountain
