The only way to deny the right to carry guns is through a chance in legislation. But you can’t just enforce change against public opinion or you risk going against the principles of democracy and you also risk losing votes, something which political parties will always take into consideration. Personally I don’t hold with the right to bear arms, I think that violence begets violence. If you raise the stakes then the other person is just as likely to call or re-raise as they are to fold. Plus the fact that more guns on the street just increases the chances of guns falling into the wrong hands. If I had the chance to posess a firearm, and the ability to use it if the situation arose, then I’d probably, selfishly, choose to do so too. I mean, it beats having to go hand to hand with a drug-fuelled assailant. Do I feel that I actually need a gun? No I don’t. Would I advocate the right to bear arms, no I wouldn’t.
