Is there anything wrong with old irons?
If they work for you, why change? Not every iron has changed- they jus make different categories for different handicap levels. 20 years ago, the soles and toplines were about the same. Nowadays, they have the thin models, but they also have irons with thick, thicker and thickest soles/toplines. These are only to help get a golf ball up in the air. Some also have more offset to help with slicing. Lofts have been strengthened as well, so people think they hit the ball farther (PWs are in the 44-48* range… 44* used to be an 8 or 9 iron!). If you’re comfortable and confident in your irons, why change? You know how they perform, and as you say, they work for you. You can’t ask for anything more of your equipment. If you feel the need to change, get fit. Demo as many models as possible. If you can’t find a set that gives you that same feeling as your old irons do, your game will suffer.
